What I Created
- Animated one poster in After Effects
- Built the Resolume Arena setup for the show.
- Designed picture frame layouts, masking in video content.
- Composited pixel‑art assets for the stage pillars.
- Edited and enhanced the portal door design with color, animation, and reactive elements.
- Created four animated portals with effects (swirls, electricity, etc.).
- Built bounding box animations with textured looks for DJ name/title cards.
- Set a starfield space background to tie everything together.
- Configured the projection mapping at the venue and added audio reactivity, using the ambient bass frequencies as input.
The Experience
Setting up at Olio was both a challenge and a breakthrough. Not everything aligned perfectly at first, but instead of spiraling into anxiety, I approached the remapping process with curiosity and problem‑solving. Discovering that I could use my laptop mic to capture bass for real‑time audio‑reactive effects became a turning point, transforming the visuals into a living response to the music.
Throughout the night (9 p.m.–2 a.m.), I monitored and performed the visuals, receiving genuine appreciation from the DJs, organizers, and even other's who stopped by to compliment the work. The biggest win was not only executing the technical vision, but also feeling a deep sense of connection with the community and trust in myself as an artist.
Outcome
The result was a fully reactive projection‑mapped environment: a retro‑futuristic visual world of portals, starfields, and pixel‑art structures that pulsed and shifted with the music. It marked a milestone in my creative journey — my first major step into live visuals and projection mapping.
